I soon learnt that life is too short to get into a battle of wills over whether or not a jumper or a jacket (or a woolly hat or gloves or a scarf) are worn or not. Small definitely reacted differently to cold than me. If he was not cold then he was not cold. But I did have to carry everything with me for when he decide that, actually, he was cold after all. I tried not to moan about this and treated it as part of my job.
As a caveat, I did insist that a sun hat was worn (when it was sunny). And sun cream (ditto).
