This was escape time; got to get out of here before I go mad, time. It was vital to take the mental weight off from time to time. It was not necessarily a great weight but it was there 24/7, inexorably dragging me down.
My escape was a ride on my bicycle. In the early days of Small that meant an hour grabbed at the weekend. Once I had trained up the secondary carer to a sufficient degree that she was confident to cope with Small alone for long enough, I could occasionally sneak off for a whole day!
Not so much a parenting guide full of advice, more the reality of parenting kids and being a house husband and father, written by a stay at home dad to three children.
